Sand filter replacement

So the filter filters again.

Over the years the sand compacts and the filter stops holding dirt even though the pump is running. The water stays cloudy however much chlorine you add. I replace the media and check the laterals.

An alternative to sand: it filters a little finer, doesn't compact the same way and lasts longer.

Replacing laterals

When sand comes back into the pool through the returns it's usually a broken lateral, not the sand itself.

Checking the multiport valve

While it's apart we check the seat and the seals, a common cause of water running to waste.
